VirtualBox is an open-source computer hypervisor software package maintained by Oracle. VirtualBox is capable of running on multiple platforms and handling different kinds of virtual disk formats, including VMware VMDK files that are used for virtual machines hosted in VMware environments. However, you can copy an VMDK file and use it in a VirtualBox environment by configuring the VirtualBox virtual machine to use the VMDK file for its virtual hard drive instead of the native VirtualBox format.
1
Open VirtualBox and create a new virtual machine, or open an existing one.
2
Click the "Settings" button.
3
Click "Storage."
4
Click "SATA Controller."
5
Click "Add Hard Disk."
6
Navigate to and double-click on the VDMK file.
7
Click "OK" to save the setting.
8
Click the green "Start" icon to open the VMDK file and boot the virtual machine.
