Difference Between RAID 10 & RAID 01

Difference Between RAID 10 & RAID 01

If you are aware what is RAID and learning about different RAID levels than, I am sure there will be some misunderstanding that RAID 01 and RAID 10 are same as in normal condition they offer same benefits. But you will be surprised to know that during disk failure both differ in operation. So now lets discuss what are RAID 0 and RAID 1 and what is the difference between RAID 01 & RAID 10.

Difference Between RAID 10 and RAID 01

RAID 0 is commonly know as “striping” where data is distributed across the different storage disks whereas in RAID 1 data is mirrored i.e. exact replica of the hard disk is made and data is updated simultaneously in both the disks.

Difference Between RAID 01 & RAID 10

RAID 1+0 is also called striped mirror. The basic element of RAID 1+0 is a mirrored pair, which means that data is first mirrored and then both copies of data are striped across multiple HDDs in a RAID set. When replacing a failed drive, only the mirror is rebuilt.

RAID 0+1 is also called mirrored stripe. The basic element of RAID 0+1 is a stripe. This means that the process of striping data across HDDs is performed initially and then the entire stripe is mirrored. If one drive fails, then the entire stripe is faulted. A rebuild operation copies the entire stripe, copying data from each disk in the healthy stripe to an equivalent disk in the failed stripe.

Hope our above explanation clears your doubts and now you are clear about the difference between RAID 01 and RAID 10. If you still have any problem or doubt, let us know and we will try to help as best as we can.
