Monitor long running operations using v$session_longops

SELECT SID, SERIAL#, opname, SOFAR, TOTALWORK,
ROUND(SOFAR/TOTALWORK*100,2) COMPLETE
FROM   V$SESSION_LONGOPS
WHERE
TOTALWORK != 0
AND    SOFAR != TOTALWORK
order by 1;

Note: the same query can be used to monitor RMAN backup status

SELECT SID, SERIAL#, CONTEXT, SOFAR, TOTALWORK,
       ROUND(SOFAR/TOTALWORK*100,2) "%_COMPLETE"
FROM V$SESSION_LONGOPS
WHERE OPNAME LIKE 'RMAN%'
  AND OPNAME NOT LIKE '%aggregate%'
  AND TOTALWORK != 0
  AND SOFAR  != TOTALWORK
;
